hey guys. posted on behalf of mike (having problems with the list)

*DEAD KEYBOARD BLOCKS INSTALLATION.*
Receiving my Ubuntu 7.04 O. S. disk, I booted up with it as per, even
pressing the 'enter' key to get things going. Every thing looked good and I
started the installation process.
O.K. with the mouse, then I needed to type something in - it didnt!
The keyboard was dead - no lights with the Num/Caps locks!
Researching what I could of the desktop with the mouse, I was able to access
the Device Manager and found the following.
Platform Device (i8042)
i8042 KBD port
AT Translated Set 2 Keyboard. (That looks good to me.)
Under the Advanced Tab was a table of items that seemed O.K. to me, as most
were positive - except the top one:
button.has_state (type) bool (value) false.(Should it be "true"?)
If "false" is correct as well, then why does the desktop not "see" the
keyboard and switch it on?
I was also able to test that the 31/2 Floppy could be activated, which
provides a "way in" for a possible cure.
Apart from getting a replacement disk in the hope that THAT one worked
(????) does anyone have any suggestions?
Hopefully
Mike Harold
