Sorry that you still have had no success. Please persevere - it is
definitely worth it.

Re the question regarding which version you downloaded - different versions
are available according to your computer architecture. If you downloaded
from Ubuntu, that question would have been asked. Did you not state that
you have an Athlon 64? I know that this processor is 64 bit and 32 bit
compatible. I have an Ubuntu installation on an Athlon XP powered computer
(the predecessor to the 64) but that is definitely 32 bit. I also have an
Ubuntu installation on a dual core Intel powered computer and that took me
quite some time to get to work. Ubuntu would not install on that one until
I converted all PATA to SATA. Those problems were the same as the ones you
described. Perhaps that clarifies why I asked you for all that information.

Another point, many people burn to disc at maximum speed. That is not a
good idea - slowly but surely does it better.

So, what to do?

Do you, by any chance, have another Linux distro disc to hand? Such as
Knoppix. I wonder if another live disc will run on your machine (I am
thinking PATA versus SATA here).

Are you able to burn the downloaded file again but at a slower burn speed?

Should you have the 64 bit version?

For the moment that is all I can think of. If you could indicate in which
part of Australia you are located perhaps some local help could be enlisted.

Cheers,
Andre
