Hey Smok,
What type of card is it?
If you log in as root, from the bash prompt try:
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
The first thing it prompts for is the driver for your video card. Most
are fairly easy to pick.
The rest of that setup should be as easy as just hitting enter the
rest of the way.
If you get into trouble and X starts but you cannot see the screen for
some reason you can kill it by hitting CRTL-ALT-BACKSPACE
See how you go.
