How much did you pay for this message tag software, it sounds like
something you could easily replicate yourself, if you have access to a
webserver, and its logs.
You could just insert a html image into the bottom of the email, even as
someone said your company logo. Give it some random name in location on
your webserver and watch the logs for access to the file. You should
just get the one hit when the person reading the email's email program
loads the image. Problem is a lot of programs even outlook block html
images from untrusted sources, and I would say from looking at message
tag it does what I have just said but then runs a script when it gets
the hit on its image to send you an email saying your message has been read.
