Actually as far I am aware, decisions relating to the Ubuntu forums are
not in any way made by Canonical - ubuntuforums is an independent site,
unless something has happened of which I am unaware.

I'm also a little confused as to why anyone would unilaterally make such a
suggestion on behalf of ubuntu-au, but again I'm not aware of recent
happenings....
