Perhaps he's saying there's more to a "new look" than a new
clearlooks/murrine theme.

Also, I think in a sense he is admitting that there was little/no art
direction for the past few years.  But they have hired people and are
currently looking for more and they're making a concerted effort to overhaul
the entire Ubuntu look and "experience" with Ayatana.  I'm skeptical too
until the fruits of their labor become more apparent, but I'm hopeful that
they're going to do things right.  If the notifications are any glimpse of
what's to come, then I'm looking forward to seeing more.
