I think that having a seperate moderated list with a few selected community 
members who have proven their dedication by their helpful contributions and 
support over a longer time not only has the benefit of strengthening the 
community it also allows for a channel of discussion with the canonical design 
team. The infrastructure is available, perhaps it is time to look into having 
monthly meetings again to have a forum for voting for this stuff.
