Thank you for the advice. I completely agree - I can get carried away. Out of 
the 3d postings, I think my favorite is metal05, a very dark subtle metal 
logo in the upper right hand corner.

I am using it currently on an ubuntu box in my room.

On my laptop(also running ubuntu) I am currently using

The alpha images are very subtle, and let you set the background color to 
whatever you wish. Currently I am using a dark blue. I want to play around 
with this a little more, but I totally get what you are saying and appreciate 
the feedback.

When I get some more free time I will try some more natural stuff.
Like you I do not have much free time. I created the 3d logo, and then just 
rendered it with various textures and lighting.
