I don't see any reason to wait for the server - machine availability
means this is going to take a little while (maybe a few weeks). But the
wiki is there for team coordination - making lists, team org,
commenting, etc - the wiki is perfect for all of that. There's no need
to wait. The new server will help fill the functional gap for
preview/upload/download capability like art.gnome.org.
I suggest the team look at links like
http://wiki.ubuntu.com//DocumentationTeam
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DocteamProjects
as examples of how an Ubuntu community team have organised themselves
effectively on the wiki. And then
http://65.19.178.132/gnome/userguide/C/
as an example of what the external server can be used for - in this case
to display/preview documentation in a way that the wiki doesn't work
for. (The doc team has just started using this external server, so it
will look nicer in time.) It will also be renamed to doc.ubuntu.com,
just as we will have the new server at art.ubuntu.com.
Thos doc team organisational plans, project tracking pages, etc. took a
while to get into shape, but are now very effective and the wiki works
well. I think a lot of coordination work, and art work, can be done now
which will better inform software choices on the server when it arrives.
Cheers,
Jane
