Keyboard Command to Access System Tray in Ubuntu Mate 16.1?

Hi all,

I am venturing back into the world of Ubuntu and Orca after several
years of being away. I'm currently using Ubuntu Mate 16.10. For the most
part, everything is going splendedly, but I just hit my first little
snag. I installed the Private Access VPN service. I believe their app
has installed successfully; but the docs say that "Once the software is
successfully installed, you should see a client icon in your system tray
near the clock". how would I go about accessing this icon via the
keyboard using Orca? I'm sure I could work around this issue. There may
be a way of running their app from the command line and if not, the
service does support direct use of the Open VPN client. Is there a way
of accessing the system tray that I'm just not aware of, or is this not
possible under Mate? If the latter is true, is Mate the best choice, or
should I be looking at either classic Gnome or Unity?

Thanks for any thoughts,

Al
