Maybe someone can answer a question about wireless networks with ubuntu

This may have something to do with network manager, which was recently updated to 0.7. I suggest you have a look to see if anybody has reported this problem at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bugs. If nobody has reported this, you may want to report it yourself.
