Cannot run Speech-dispatcher on hardy

Hi all,
I have installed the 0.6.6.0 package through apt-get. I read somewhere that removing /etc/profile.d/speech-dispatcher.sh should fix some problems running it as a user but it doesn't exist on my system.
I have also copied /etc/speech-dispatcher/conf into ~/.speech-dispatcher but still no luck.
Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.
