Hello,
Dapper has released and it's time to get back to work writing my HOWTOs
for setting it up for Italian blind users.
Good news:
festlex-ifd, festvox-italp16k and festvox-itapc16k are not in main or
restricted, maybe I should ask for them to be added for edgy. They
are in universe, though: good! Once they are installed, festival
--tts --language italian just works! That's a great thing, it means
there's no need to patch festival list files to make them recognize
italian, as it used to be in the case.
Bad news:
I managed to totally break gnopernicus. I did something in my system
that broke something in a way that now even right after a reboot, when
I try to go in the Preferences/Speech/Voices menu, it crashes:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344214
Speech in general is also broken. festival --tts --language italian
still works fine, but test speech fails like this:
enrico at cavazza:~$ test-speech
1: OAFIID:GNOME_Speech_SynthesisDriver_Speech_Dispatcher:proto0.3
2: OAFIID:GNOME_Speech_SynthesisDriver_Festival:proto0.3
Select a server: 1
Attempting to activate OAFIID:GNOME_Speech_SynthesisDriver_Speech_Dispatcher:proto0.3.
Server could not be initialized.
enrico at cavazza:~$ test-speech
1: OAFIID:GNOME_Speech_SynthesisDriver_Speech_Dispatcher:proto0.3
2: OAFIID:GNOME_Speech_SynthesisDriver_Festival:proto0.3
Select a server: 2
Attempting to activate OAFIID:GNOME_Speech_SynthesisDriver_Festival:proto0.3.
Enter desired gender ('m' or 'f'): m
Enter desired locale, or 'all' to display all voices: all
Exception Unknown CORBA exception id: 'IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0' getting voice list.
enrico at cavazza:~$
Any idea how to fix that?
Ciao,
Enrico
