Has anyone tested Festival 2? (or 1.95 I guess it is)

Does anyone have a view on which technology is fundamentally the best? 
It would be good if we could gather around one solution and push that 
forward. There seems to be a lot of fragmentation and half-baked 
implementations in this area, even for open source. [or perhaps I should 
say, even for academic projects, as that is what most speech engines are.]
