The binding thing is SSIP, the TCP protocol. The convenience libraries
(you mentioned libspeechd which is for C, but it is the same for the
Python library) are developed as wrappers over the TCP protocol. I think
for this purpose the Python library distributed along with Speech
Dispatcher is a good option. If it is lacking something, then it can be
enhanced/fixed.
