Forget Unity ... how about abandoning X?

It seems that such a configuration will not work with the current
implementations of the ATI and NVIDIA drivers.  I think that that would be a
deal-breaker for me if nothing is done :(  Hopefully something as big as
Ubuntu moving to Wayland could get NVIDIA and ATI to support newer features
of the Linux kernel like KMS.
