If you use (link to) GPL code, your program needs to be GPL too. That 
is, you must make the source (not just the source code - a bit more is 
involved) available to those to whom you distribute your program.

If you use (link to) LGPL code, your program can use any license that 
you see fit BUT you must release the source for any changes to the LGPL 
code that you made if any. In other words, my program can make use of 
your LGPL library and be distributed under a proprietary license without 
source code. If I make any changes to your LGPL library for my program, 
I have to make available both the source and binaries of your LGPL 
library to those that I distribute it to but I do not ever have to make 
the source code of my program available under LGPL or GPL terms.
