Talking about pet problems, my pet peeve is that grub is only
installed on one HDD. It seems that if I have two HDD and an OS
installed on each, I should be able to boot if either HDD is still
running. This would also solve this particular problem of BIOS switch
HDDs around, if UUIDs are used.

Don't you mean GeNToo? ;)

Just finding a rescue cd for GeNToo is not for the faint of heart. ;)

( Then again if you actually *want* Gentoo on a NT kernel there is GentooCygwin
  http://gentoocygwin.sourceforge.net/ )
