I know that this request will probably go unanswered, but what the
heck is all this about?

There are some here who are maybe a bit more abrasive than they need
to be (i'm one of them), but there's an awful lot of talk about
flaming around here. The number of posts to this list which are
genuinely flames have to be a small minority.   Why is this reason to
even discuss shutting down the list?

Talk about punishing the many for the infractions of the few.

And where the heck else are we going to find people posting the
definition of religion in a thread about the code of conduct and
possible reformation of the list?

Instead of posting sweeping generalizations that the list has gotten
out of hand, could we have some lower-key warnings about what type of
content is unacceptable?
