I haven't used a thumb drive on Windows, but indeed they work very well
on Ubuntu.

To make sure people don't get me wrong, my intention with linking the
story was to share the nice work and ideas of the testers, not to make a
general statement of bad usability of Ubuntu and Gnome. I like Gnome
user interface much more than Windows XP or Vista (although my
experience with Vista is minimal).
