Porting portage to Ubuntu?

Ugh.. as much as I cherish my memories of the 2 years or so I spent in
Gentoo land, I don't think I could go back.
These days I just want to get stuff done, not have to do stuff to get stuff
done.
There are better ways than to port Portage.
