Rhythmbox has been able to play, burn and rip CDs for a while, and I
think Totem can play them too. That said, Serpentine is better for
burning random audio files than Rhythmbox is, as you'd have to import
the files into your library, create a playlist, burn it, and then delete
the playlist (that definitely needs to suck less).
