That's my point exactly, but I disagree with your conclusion. The odds of a
user being protected against a system compromise (especially a desktop user)
are miniscule, while there are plenty of genuine, documented cases of people
installing an Ubuntu system being stopped in their tracks because it's
non-trivial to get access to these packages.
