True, but it's still true that the Ubuntu packagers can't keep on top of it. 
Fortunately, in the case of Wine, somebody else can :-)

I recently audited my system and found that I had a tiny number of
non-Ubuntu apps installed, and _none_ of them are installed from source:
they come from 3 or 4 other repos.
