AFAIK the open source nv driver has almost no hardware acceleration,
because nVidia doesn't release any specs, while ATI has releases at
least some specs (but not for the latest cards I think)?

Also, both Fedora & Novell are working on support for more hardware; the
current state of support might well be what the developers had around to
test on (remember it's still beta software at best and they might need
help from the manufacturers for the binary drivers).
