For the record, I'm sure Canonical would be willing to make a
contractual commitment to users not to introduce licence fees for
Ubuntu. Ever. I personally have no interest in joining the proprietary
software industry - if we can't make Ubuntu sustainable without charging
licence fees, then it would be better to let Red Hat lead the commercial
charge and Debian lead the non-profit charge. I believe there's room for
Ubuntu to be sustainable, and room for Debian, and room for Red Hat, but
if not, then we can hand over the reins to the Ubuntu Foundation and
step aside graciously.

I can appreciate Francoise' concerns, but on this particular point I'm
happy to reassure him that his worst-case scenario is not going to happen.
