Then why say anything?  If you see a thread has stopped contributing
anything, just _stop_.  You don't need to tell anybody why you're stopping. 
Otherwise, it sounds very much as if you've given up because you've lost. 
I really hate having people tell me, "you're wrong, and I'm not going to
argue about it any more".
