It's nice that Canonical can make some money from supporting Ubuntu,
it's nice that some few corporations give back to the community through
employing open source developers, but by and large I am against any
business having an identity of its own in the eyes of the government.
It removes the officers of the corporate entity from a certain level of
responsibility for their actions. Although I do contribute financially
to several open source projects I do not pay for Linux and won't
support a corporate Linux whether RH, Mandriva, Linspire, or any others
of which I am unaware. I did support and use Libranet for a while
because I liked the 'small developer makes good' feel. Ubuntu
displaced that with its philosophy more than anything but there is
always Debian waiting in the wings if Mark or Ubuntu as a whole goes
belly-up. Although Ubuntu has my respect and my admiration (and my
(several) hard drives) it can never have my loyalty for the simple fact
that the rules can change at a moment's notice.
