Hello.

I got the cheapest Linode setup around June, and it's working quite
nice. The only Ubuntu image they provide is the Warty one, but I had
no problems in upgrading it to Hoary; I'm also running a couple of
backported packages on it (Ruby, Rails, Trac, Subversion, etc.).
The only thing worth noting (or is it?) is that the Linode 2.6 kernel
has something funny WRT to network connections (when I'm on a 2.6
kernel, I can login to the machine via their interface, but can't
via SSH), but their 'latest stable' 2.4 kernel works perfectly.
I doubt it's an unsolvable problem, I just didn't have the time
to find the solution.
If there's indeed any deal between Canonical and Linode, maybe it would
be worth trying to ask Linode to provide Hoary and/or Breezy images, not
ony the Warty one. I guess there's also an option of installing one's
own distro 'from scratch', but I didn't have the time to pursue this
topic, as well.
Please let us/me know if you get any interesting answers
off-list and what are your experiences (if any). :o)
Cheers,

I guess there are some things that are so gross you just have to
forget, or it'll destroy something within you. Perl is the first
such thing I have known. -- Erik Naggum, comp.lang.lisp
