I think you need a licence; otoh it's pretty easy to pick up a copy
anonymously.

The firmware is Intersil's. I got my most recent semi-legit copy by
downloading the Windows drivers from Netcomm's website,
www.netcomm.com.au. It's also on my CD, and since I've now bought a card
my semilegit cop is probably legit now.

Probably, you can also get it from smc's website (look for Windows
drivers for the smc2802w version 1).

The prism54.org folk have been promised a licence by Intersil, but it's
a long time coming (and in the meantime are distributing it off the
website, in the leader's private area). It might help if you take it up
with Intersil jointly with Ian Murdock, Bruce Perens, the prism54 people
and anyone else you can find with an interest.

_Most_ people will have the driver, it will be on their driver CD,
possibly in a windows executable archive or zip file. A tool to scan CDs
looking for .arm (the firmware itself) and files likely to contain it.

Here's the CD contents:

I guess someone else sels it as a wl54gt. Pretty handy, if the change
the chipset the gt should change (it's part of the chipset's name).
