The term "traditional" means "familiar", and it's very important to be
familiar! To me, that means offering bash, zsh, csh, etc easily to users
of the system.

That doesn't mean we should pick one of those and extend it with
snappiness, and it doesn't mean that the login experience needs to be
one of those (or all of those based on user config!). It just means that
you need to be able to get to one of those shells in a single easy
command (or maybe two if you need to install something like comfy first :).
