Debian is of course an excellent OS!
Ubuntu generally gets more updates, more proactive security features,
and better hardware support. And snappy as a package manager has many
advantages over debs for devices; mainly the ability to keep updates of
different parts separate from one another, and automatic containment of
apps for security purposes.

BBB support in Ubuntu is pretty good, lots of Googleable docs. You might
want to use the official BSP kernel for some features, but snappy
supports that. Snappy is still new and rough around the edges but if you
will be shipping lots of devices and want to keep management costs to a
minimum then it's likely the best option out there.
