    Yes, it is one of many options.  That said, it was determined in a
MOTU Meeting that Ubuntu Membership is a general requirement for
MOTUship (1).  MC is willing to hear applications for both Ubuntu
Membership and MOTU simultaneously, as requested by the Community
Council, but, speaking for myself, I generally prefer that applicants
to MOTU respect this decision by MOTU and arrange to be ubuntumembers
(by any of the several available means) prior to application to MOTU.
When an application to be a Contributing Developer (the means by which
Ubuntu Membership is granted by the MC) is considered by MC, the focus
is usually specifically on interaction with the development community:
applicants with wider involvement may find it easier to gain
membership through alternate means.
