it is true that I mailed you for assistance through the mentoring
process. I hang around in #ubuntu-motu thereafter and learned quite
a bit more by looking at how other MOTUs handle common cases and by
occasional questions.

I think pushing the mentor process more would be helpful. But IMHO
there are two `classes' of mentees:

1. People who try to get started with packaging and thus pose beginner's
questions on `launchpad-users' and `ubuntu-motu'. We should get them
more into the existing documentation and possibly translate it to that
there is a basic understanding about how things work together.

A mentor could spread pointers to the documentation and ask questions
about it, much like the Debian NM process. Although some people dislike
that you `just have to paraphrase content' in NM, I feel that as an AM
you get the idea if the content was understood or not. Now in a way
we already got that on #ubuntu-motu, that's true.

2. People coming from a Debian background who are already used to
packaging. I missed a starting point for this case. I was willing to
comb through the wiki to get every needed piece of information I could
possibly need. I don't think many are willing to do this if the
information is not properly organised. Especially when you are crawling
the wiki you encounter lots of dead links. Documentation is mostly
available but not too accessible. But I see that you make constant
efforts to improve it, so work is being done.

Kind regards,
Philipp Kern
