Yes, you must have an account to use the site, just like with the
forums, AskUbuntu, mailing lists, the wiki, etc.

Again, you need to have an account on the site. It will use your OpenID
authentication from Launchpad to pull in all your information and create
an account, at which point your method to log in will be that same
OpenID authentication. This is the whole point behind OpenID.

I would say that in general, anything on *.ubuntu.com should be
explicitly trusted because nothing gets there without Canonical.
