My mistake. It has probably been a few years since my last experience but I recall the failure of the install procedure on the Live Desktop several times until I realised that it required a minimum of around 800MB of ram. The Alternate CD did the job. I didn't know that the limitation had been remedied. It's also possible that I'm remembering Ubuntu rather than Lubuntu.
