I used Evolution mail for a long time, and it was what I transitioned-to 
after leaving KDE.

It worked fine for years, but it started hanging often (probably 
starting in a new release), and it went more than a month without the 
hangs going away.

So I changed over to Thunderbird mail, which I've been using 
successfully for years now.

Not having used Evolution mail for years, I can't answer your question 
about its current state.

The only way I use Evolution mail, is to access my old e-mails.
