Hi Fritz,
sorry i should have typed restart.
you can also run:
sudo service lightdm stop
sudo service lightdm start

Also, freedesktop is a specification for how programs should do things
to remain compliant with all the other desktop interfaces.  It is not a
program, though that would be a cool bash alias to make :)
