sources.list problem

I always had in my sources.list the ubuntu extras section

	deb http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu trusty main

Now, since recent it creates trouble:

E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList
/var/lib/apt/lists/extras.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_trusty_main_i18n_Translation-en
E: Die Liste der Paketquellen oder die Status-Datei konnten nicht
geöffnet werden.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

is the error msg opening synaptic - before it closes without doing
anything (same happens in a terminal with apt-get update && dist-upgrade).

Any ideas in regard?
