'Frugal' installation alias 'persistent live' installation can be made
'almost' automatically with the tools usb-creator-gtk (Startup Disk
Creator) or Unetbootin. Some versions of those programs might be buggy,
but I think the current versions for Lubuntu 13.10 works.

Select to create a file for persistence (max 4 GB). If you want to be
more advanced, you can create a partition with the label casper-rw, and
remove the casper-rw file. There is no size limit of the casper-rw
partition, and it should have an ext file system (ext2, ext3 or ext4).

Do you intend to use a flash pendrive or a hard disk drive or a solid
state drive?

Best regards
Nio
