Stop "dbus." startx, update/upgrade errors?

Thanks for the ideas on the "dbus" config file . . . are you just saying
that because I remember seeing "dbus" or does it actually make sense that
dbus changes would mess with the login????

In the meanwhile I posted my issue on LP "answers" site and got a recommend
from "actionparsnip" to try run in TTY:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -f install

Then, "if get issues, run"

sudo fuser -vki /var/lib/dpkg/lock; sudo dpkg --configure -a

Seems somewhat similar to what you were suggesting . . . I'll probably try
this tomorrow, as I'm away from the iBook right now . . . but, I'm not
understanding why this would be different than running "dpkg" & fsck in
recovery mode . . . both of which "found errors" but then . . . didn't fix
them . . . ??? But, I'll look at moving the "dbus" config file as well . .
. .
