Hi,
This is: Linux 3.2.0-55-generic #85-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 2 12:29:27 UTC 2013
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux (Lubuntu 12.04 amd64).
Output of that tricky command is:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
*$ ubuntu-support-status --show-all*
*You have 20 packages (1.6%) supported until October 2013 (18m)
*
You have 15 packages (1.2%) supported until April 2015 (18m)
You have 996 packages (81.9%) supported until April 2017 (5y)
You have 3 packages (0.2%) supported until October 2018 (5y)
You have 0 packages (0.0%) that can not/no-longer be downloaded
You have 182 packages (15.0%) that are unsupported
*Supported until October 2013 (18m):*
esound-common libaudiofile1 libcue1 libenca0 libesd0 libgsf-1-114
libgsf-1-common libid3tag0 libimlib2 libmad0 libva-x11-1 libvdpau1
libxcb-composite0 libxcb-randr0 libxcb-xv0 notification-daemon pidgin
pidgin-data xscreensaver xscreensaver-data
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
NOW, which part that tells you this system has reached its EOL and should
NOT be used? this part?
*"You have 20 packages (1.6%) supported until October 2013 (18m)"*
If YES, then what is the difference between this:
*You have 20 packages (1.6%) supported until October 2013 (18m)
*
*
*
and this:
*
*
*You have 182 packages (15.0%) that are unsupported*
The reason why I am asking is because the output of:
*$ ubuntu-support-status --show-all*
*
*
That shows "unsupported packages" on my Lubuntu 12.04 Installation *(which
supposed that it has reached its EOL)* is very close to the output that
shows "unsupported packages" on my Lubuntu 13.04 installation *which has
NOT yet reached its EOL*.
Examples of *mutual* *'unsupported packages'* on both my Lubuntu
*12.04*installation and Lubuntu
*13.04* installations:
- lubuntu-artwork
- lxpanel
- lxsession
- xfce4-power-manager
- pcmanfm
These packages (just an example of much more packages) are indeed on the
official repositories.
These packages, as per the command, are not supported whether on Lubuntu
12.04 or Lubuntu 13.04.
Now, I do hope you see why this is confusing.
If both Lubuntu 12.04 and Lubuntu 13.04 showing the SAME unsupported
packages, HOW CAN you tell which system has reached its EOL and must not be
used and which system is still usable?
Unless of course, the part that says "unsupported packages" should be
ignored and this part is what we need to look at to tell which has reached
its EOL and which one is not:
*Lubutnu 12.04*
*You have 20 packages (1.6%) supported until October 2013 (18m)*
You have 15 packages (1.2%) supported until April 2015 (18m)
You have 996 packages (81.9%) supported until April 2017 (5y)
You have 3 packages (0.2%) supported until October 2018 (5y)
You have 0 packages (0.0%) that can not/no-longer be downloaded
You have 182 packages (15.0%) that are unsupported
*Lubuntu 13.04*
*You have 1200 packages (84.8%) supported until January 2014 (9m)
*You have 12 packages (0.8%) supported until July 2014 (9m)
You have 0 packages (0.0%) that can not/no-longer be downloaded
You have 203 packages (14.3%) that are unsupported
- - - - - -
HOWEVER, why PCManFM for example or LXPanel is UNsupported on 13.04?
I hope you see why this is confusing and I do strongly suggest we
create a*NEW Wiki Page
* to explain this since this has been an endless debate since Lubuntu 12.04
(one year and a half).
By the way, I have:
Lubuntu 12.04 installation
Lubuntu 13.04 installation
and Lubuntu 13.10 installation
So, if you need/require the full output (to compare), let me know!
