Hi Lee,
I have the same problem as you and Aere with the intel graphics in an
old IBM Thinkcentre (where my son is playing PC games in Windows XP).
The new Ubuntu (13.04) version of the intel graphics driver does not
support such old intel graphics chips properly.
The problem with bad colours you describe would happen *sometimes* also
with 12.04, but with 13.04 it happens *always*. I suspect that the video
is downgraded to 256 colours.
