Conflict.. Synaptic/Aptitude?

I'm wondering if the reason that I cannot change my Software Sources is 
because I'm using both Synaptic Package Manager & Debian Package Search.
I can alter things using: /sudo add-apt-repository/
But I would prefer to use the Synaptic panel option or via the menu 
item/'Software Sources'/
I downloaded the Debian Package Search program from the Lubuntu Software 
Center.
The Software Sources program crashes every time I use it & the Synaptic 
panel option /Settings>Repositories/ appears to be working i.e. the 
'spinner' spins but to no effect.
I appreciate your attention.
