Is there a way to get scrot to capture the mouse cursor?

You did not miss anything :)
I have done a deep search and 'scrot' simply can NOT capture the pointer of
a mouse.

The only mention to "mouse" word on scrot man pages or howto is:

-s, --selectinteractively select a window or rectangle with the mouse

I think it means you can select the area you want to capture with your
mouse but your pointer will not appear :)

If that so important, you can use alternatives!
