I thought you said you *edited* the file!?

If you can start with a fresh Lubuntu VM, run the script, and get a line
in the autostart file with -e at the start of it, that is a bug in the
script.  But if the -e moves to the start of a line ONLY when you edit
the file with some text editor or other, then that is a problem with the
text editor or with how you are using it.
