A couple of 'howto launch things' questions

Just right click on the panel and "Add / Remove Panel items" . Here you can
add (on a normal install it is already on the panel) the 'Application Launch
Bar'. If you have added it mark it and hit edit. This will bring a window
which allows you to choose lxterminal and firefox and add them as launchers to
the panel (btw. this is also possible on the xfce4 panel in quite the similiar
fashion)

Here you can find all the explanation on how to do this with openbox. (yes it
is all possible)
To allow openbox to handle the clicks you need to first right click the desktop
go to desktop preferences -> advanced and check the box which says show menu
provided by window manager
