Strange Icon sizes in menu [12.10]

I too have an issue with menu icon sizes in 12.10, which wasn't
present in earlier versions (11.10 & 12.04).

I have a custom desktop entry in: /usr/local/share/applications/Eclipse.desktop

The icon file is in /home/xxxxxxxx/eclipse/icon.xpm

This icon shows up in  Menu -> Programming as 256x256, where previous
versions scaled the image to appropriate size.  Portion of screenshot
is attached.
