A work-round for this is to drop to root shell prompt and issue the
following commands.
mount --options remount,rw /
mount --all
If you require network access
service dbus start
service network-manager start
If no prompt appears after 'Successfully loaded 20 plugins' Ctrl+C will
bring up the root prompt.
