I had a similar issue on my computer which was most noticeable in
tty. I was losing about two letters worth off the left side of the
screen. What worked for me was xvidtune. It is already installed and can
be launched from cli. Now this utility appears to be ancient and I
think you need to keep hitting "apply" or "show" to see if your
adjustments are effective, but it worked for me.
